।।16.2।। --,अहिंसा अहिंसनं प्राणिनां पीडावर्जनम्। सत्यम् अप्रियानृतवर्जितं यथाभूतार्थवचनम्। अक्रोधः परैः आक्रुष्टस्य अभिहतस्य वा प्राप्तस्य क्रोधस्य उपशमनम्। त्यागः संन्यासः? पूर्वं दानस्य उक्तत्वात्। शान्तिः अन्तःकरणस्य उपशमः। अपैशुनं अपिशुनता परस्मै पररन्ध्रप्रकटीकरणं पैशुनम्? तदभावः अपैशुनम्। दया कृपा भूतेषु दुःखितेषु। अलोलुप्त्वम् इन्द्रियाणां विषयसंनिधौ अविक्रिया। मार्दवं मृदुता अक्रौर्यम्। ह्रीः लज्जा। अचापलम् असति प्रयोजने वाक्पाणिपादादीनाम् अव्यापारयितृत्वम्।।किं च --,

।।16.2।।तथा --, अहिंसा -- किसी भी प्राणीको कष्ट न देना? सत्यअप्रियता और असत्यसे रहित यथार्थ वचन। अक्रोध -- दूसरोंके द्वारा गाली दी जाने या ताड़ना दी जानेपर उत्पन्न हुए क्रोधको शान्त कर लेना। त्याग -- संन्यास ( दान नहीं ) क्योंकि दान पहले कहा जा चुका है। शान्ति -- अन्तःकरणका संकल्परहित होना? अपैशुन -- अपिशुनता किसी दूसरेके सामने पराये छिद्रोंको प्रकट करना पिशुनता ( चुगली ) है? उसका न होना अपिशुनता है। भूतोंपर दया -- दुखी प्राणियोंपर कृपा करना? अलोलुपता -- विषयोंके साथ संयोग होनेपर भी इन्द्रियोंमें विकार न होना? मार्दवकोमलता अर्थात् अक्रूरता। ह्री -- लज्जा और अचपलता -- बिना प्रयोजन वाणी? हाथ? पैर आदिकी व्यर्थ क्रियाओंका न करना।
